Shedding Light on Animation: Using Adobe After Effects

Shedding Light on Animation: Using Adobe After Effects
This project was focused on crafting an animation using After Effects. My primary objective was to infuse every aspect of the scene with dynamic motion. Also, it demanded creativity in animations beyond the scope of a traditional presentation slideshow. Additionally, meticulous attention was paid to fulfilling all design requirements, including color schemes and aesthetic guidelines.
For my sketches, I aimed to produce designs that were both adorable and imaginative, while also adhering to aesthetic principles. As for my narrative, I wanted to incorporate elements of both day and night. The concept of the dynamic and contrasting nature of these two  intrigued me, leading me to develop a story centered around a cozy home nestled within a lightbulb. This narrative allowed for a transition from darkness to illumination, symbolizing the shift from night to day. I then crafted my assets, ensuring they were visually appealing yet straightforward, before starting on to creating them in illustrator.
My First Draft
When I was putting my design together in After Effects, it took me a while to decide exactly where I wanted each element and how I wanted them to move. So, I went back to paper to sketch out my ideas. My initial draft was a good starting point, but the feedback I received suggested creating a loop and making the transition between the sun and moon smoother, so it doesn't feel like such a sudden change.
My Second Draft
For my second draft, I addressed most of the issues from the first draft. Things started to come together nicely, and everything was looking much neater. Additional feedback suggested syncing the timing of the windows and adding movement to the smoke instead of leaving it static.
My Final
In my final, I carefully addressed feedback to refine the animation in After Effects. I smoothed transitions between the sun and moon, added a loop for better flow, synced window timings, and introduced movement to the smoke and stayed to the 30 second time limit. Throughout, I prioritized creativity while meeting design requirements. The result is a polished, cohesive animation that effectively communicates the intended narrative and aesthetic vision.
